Why would a radio station beg listeners to patronize their sponsors?

Most radio stations I listen to just play commercials when scheduled. End of story. One, however, has blurbs asking listeners to PLEASE patronize their sponsors and mention the station when they do. I find it in poor taste and patronizing. Does this mean the station is in financial trouble?

Your patronage of their advertisers allows you to listen to their content without paying for it.

No advertisers… no content.

  1. Welcome to the Marketing world. The commercials are paid for by the Sponsoring company to the radio station. If the Advertising companies experience high or higher sales volumes because of the advertising they are paying to the radio stations ~ they would be more apt to pay for more advertising with that radio station.

No different than a glossy photo ad in a magazine ~ just a different media.

  2. To keep a station on the air.

They need sponsors to pay the advertising so the station
can have money to run that station.

It is usually the stations either have a small financial problem
and are trying to keep the sponsors that they have
so the station can have the money to stay on
    the air.

Also, the sponsor probably pays the station a extra
sum to the station. So that they can have the DJs
    saying this.

Either way it all comes down to money.
