If I have an Internet Radio Station Do I have to ask permission to record campanies to put their song on air?

My friends and I are planning to put up an Internet Radio Station, I was just wondering if we need to ask permission to record companies, and artist for us to put their song on air?

Not only ask permission, but probably pay them. I’m hearing that there are smaller fees and some concessions for student stations and such. Check out www.riaa.org
